Blackstone Park
Getting to know a new place.
Having lived my entire life in Massachusetts, you’d think a move to Providence would not be a far departure from my usual surroundings. On a macro level, sure. There are brownstones, historic homes, universities, and indecisive weather reports. On a micro level, the small familiarities you’ve come to rely on as permanent fixtures are now absent. Rebuilding a new familiarity in Providence is work. The only way I’ll grow accustomed is to immerse myself fully. No half-ass measures. Luckily I can always rely on the familiar spectrum of local species to ground me. It’s like meeting someone from your state in a foreign place. “We don’t know each other, but you feel like family”.
Blackstone Park is a local birding hotspot, clocking 174 species on ebird.
